Turquoise, how I love thee

Project Scrap-Away Round 10 has ended and the results are in!

The lovely Teresa Collins was the judge for this round and she floored me by saying this

"I love the colors that Sharmaine used. I loved the painting and the stitching. The layout is very HAPPY and instantly caught my attention"

and if that wasn't enough she also said this

"The moment I saw this LO I knew it would be the winning entry! I love how Sharmaine accentuated the LO with the turqoise paint! Well done!"

Yes she picked my layout as the winner of this round!!! Floored ABSOLUTELY floored!!!

So my page... I decided to do a page about Dave's Dad, Opa. So I choose to do the page in Orange and Blue, the colours of the soccer team in Holland (the blue is their away strip colour, yum) and I found a photo of a windmill, found one that was near Opa's home town, on the internet. I also made the 'o' and the 'h' using the idea that Kinsey had shared here, to use the negative space on the sticker sheet, and I made them with Kindyglitz.

Journaling “I got this photo off the internet because we don’t have any photos depicting Holland. This is where Opa was born and lived till he was 20, until he migrated to Australia. Dave has never been and has very little knowledge of what Holland is like but one day we hope to visit. We would love to meet his relatives and see the places Opa lived and worked. We would love to soak up the Dutch way of life, pick a tulip or two, wear some clogs and photograph a few windmills. I know I will have to rely on my interpreter, Dave, but I look forward to hearing stories of Opa and those stories we will be able to pass on so they don’t fade. Those places we visit will then have new memories to share and a new generation will then have a passion to get in touch with a place this family once called home. I look forward to going Dutch.”
You can go see all the other layouts that were made for round 10 HERE. It is truly amazing that one thought can inspire so many different creations, all of which were tremendous!!
Round 11 will be up later tonight, so I will find out in the morning what the new challenge will be. Thanks again to all those who have shown their support and to all of you for your encouraging words, means a lot and I thank you for having faith in me :)
On the home front, Dave is away at Tarraleah and all I can say is brrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! His mobile doesn't get coverage there so I am yet to hear from him :( Roll on Friday :)

What has 8 legs and spins webs???

Yes a spider :) Spent part of the afternoon taking photos...

Elizabeth spotted this

and promptly cleaned it away

And what is Lucy looking at??

him!!

And then, as I walked around the garden, I spotted many MANY more webs, so I thought I would take photos of some of them ;)

This morning Lucy and I went to Chickenfeed, Tasmania's big chain discount store (psst Tassie readers did you know they have a loyalty card?? see the website for more!). I was inspired by the video tutorial Lusi has on her blog and wanted to see if I could find some of the bingo markers she used. We found them so this afternoon I had a little play, very cautious play lol, and made this page of Jessica. Wanted to document the winter dress the girls have for school.

We also bought some water colour paints and crayons as I have some ideas rolling around in my head and would need these ummm utensils... ummm tools... ummm things to execute the ideas.

Much Ado About Monday

I have a feeling I have used this title before... anyways lol

Another busy day which included visits to the fruit shop, library, supermarket, the hospital to see my Great Aunt and of course school x3 trips. Jessica has swimming this afternoon and Dave said she had to sit on the 'naughty step' not once but twice because she wasn't listening and was mucking about... hmmmmm

Finished off my Project Scrap-Away layout today, so it has been emailed in and now I sit and patiently wait till the announcement on Wednesday, wow round 10, amazing!! Thought I would share with you the layout I didn't use for the challenge. It just didn't sit right with me but I finished it off and am happy with it,because it says what I wanted to say, even though it wasn't what I used for the challenge.

In case you wondered, I can't stand vegemite, the bite mark is from Elizabeth as she loves the stuff, ick! Lucy doesn't like it either, Megan and Jessica do as does Dave but he isn't overly excited by it lol. Will share the layout I did send in on Wednesday, after the announcement.

Aliens have abducted my family...

Seems the afternoon was made up of these strange people making strange faces in strange places

This jolly girl found refuge in the hallway with pen and paper

This soul got crafty with glue and paper

This handsome devil took flight to the bedroom to get melodic with on his guitar

this shmuzzy

and this rabbit

got together to become this odd looking couple

Tiger Megan, she made this at school,

The girls making a pancake out of Dave

Who then went and made dumplings for our dessert :)

I also made a start on a new layout for Project Scrap-Away. Had to wait for some things to dry, and will work on it again tomorrow, so made this layout for the Mojo Challenge, which was to ask someone what they would do if they had a million dollars and to use pen or a pin (I used both :) )

So that's me and my lot for another weekend. Dave is away Wednesday-Friday this week so it's going to be a busy week. Thanks for stopping by and again thanks to those who have been showing their support in my Project Scrap-Away journey, you can read more on that here :)

Not much to say...

Other than it was a 9am game, not a 10am game, for Megan and I didn't realise this until 5 minutes before we left and as I sat down to a bowl of porridge.... HMMMMmm

They are still to win a soccer match but they are playing so much better than at the beginning of the season and all are still enjoying it.

Made a start on a page for Project Scrap-Away, will see how that goes, and so don't have anything to share. So I thought I would look back at this day in 2007 and found this...

Real Living Blog the blog home for the magazine but with so much goodness it needs it's own mention

2 chickys and a caramelatte...

Been a busy day (when do I NOT say that??!!hmmm) anyway... dropped Megan and Jessica off at school then took Elizabeth and Lucy into town. We hit some shops... Pumpkin Patch, where I got a super cool jacket for Megan at $19.99!! Grandma its like Elizabeth's green one that we got with you, but it is red, hip length and has big buttons. Also got a long sleeve t-shirt top for Megan and Jessica, the 2 for $20!! Then we went to Target, to get Megan a skivvy for school and got 2 for just over $5!!! Oh love the sales :) we then went and got a box of tissues to deliver to my Great Aunt who we went to visit after I had this

which, of course, came with 2 free babycinos, which they loved :)

I took my camera with me today but the coffee shop was crowded so didn't use a flash, so I am proud of me for getting some of the manual settings on the camera right enough to have some photos that worked out to be viewable lol

After a visit with my Great Aunt, who wondered what the girls had been drinking as they were off the show, but the truth was they were bored and now used to visiting at the hospital so just acted up, we went to spotlight and I bought some goodies for future projects, looking forward to playing and sharing at some stage :) :)

Got home in time for lunch before deciding it was sunny enough to hang the patiently waiting washing! It was almost all dry when we got home from school so that made me happy!! What is it about winter sun? I think it has more of the 'sunny' feel than the summer sun and it just warms you like no other sun. It permeates right to the core and I think I could sit in it for a long time, given the chance lol

Right... so where was I... Oh yeah hanging the washing... then we jumped back in the car and headed off to school for their assembly. Jessica is doing choir this year but dislikes it, which I don't' get as she sings more than I do and loves it... anyway Choir did a performance today as well as Jessica's class showing their projects and Megan's class showing theirs. The assembly went overtime so Megan didn't get to do her recorder performance either. Home after that and then tonight we took the girls out for dinner, which they loved :)

Soccer Saturday tomorrow, Megan's game is at 10am so no sleep ins for us this weekend :)

Hoping to make a start on my Project Scrap-Away layout tomorrow. Just have to get the wheels in motion ;)

Sunshiny Thursday

started out like this

Elizabeth loved getting out in the sunshine!!! She made soup...

She used silverbeet leaves and some petals from this...

Even the ants like these...

And I liked spying more signs of spring on its way...

Do you remember the photo I took here, of the peanut butter jar?? Well I finally scrapped it today

The new challenge is up at Project Scrap-Away. It is to scrap about Culture. It can be about a cultural event or about where you come from etc so putting my thinking cap on and see what comes out :)

Just call me a monkey's uncle....

I made it through to the next round on Project Scrap-Away!!! I was shocked, seriously shocked. This was the one round where I doubted what I did would be even close to good enough and was floored to have made it through. Don't get me wrong I love my creation and think it is worthy but seeing all the other creations and knowing that these ladies are so talented with scissors and craft I felt out of my league on this one. My scrapping is so different to all the other entrants that I felt intimidated, so am grateful for the opportunity to go on to the next round and wish Felicia all the best, because I have admired her work for a while now and she has amazing abilities to create. So this round we had to take one of our first layouts and re-create it. You can see all the layouts for Round #9 here and here is mine

This is the old layout I chose to re-create

and here is the new page

And then this is the other page I created but didn't submit

So with my sigh of relief I await the challenge for Round 10, we are now down to six entrants so the end isn't far away. My understanding of it all is that the final 3 have all their work, for the competition, shown to a group of judges, the lovely people who are on the sidebar of the Project Scrap-Away blog, and the winner will be chosen from that. So again would love your help in blogging for immunity, see here for more on that :) Thank you for those that continue to support me on this adventure and a big shout out to Allison for, again, believing in me when I did not :)

Righto then on to today....

Was another cold start to the day, but drier then yesterday.

Megan in her new school winter pants

and Megan brought home a friend from school today.

He is yet to have a name

but they enjoyed playing for a while

I just love the detail, his soccer boots are cool, but you can't see them in the photos lol!

Brrrr

Winter has laid her hand upon us now!! So this is a mammoth post to warm me up lol
Took these photos of the mountain over the day

For those that don't know, this is Mount Wellington, the iconic wonder of Hobart. We live on the North East side of the mountain. My friends Allison and Mel live right on the other side, while Mum and Dad live on the other side but higher up, right in the shadow as we say, and possibly would have had snow there today, if they had been home to tell us about it instead of sunning themselves in Darwin lol. The other side of the mountain sees more snow than we do as most of the wind and snow comes from that direction and the other side is flatter than our side.

Jessica got to wear her new school winter dress today, had to take photos *grin*

She looks like she is sickening for something in the photo but she isn't lol
Mattresses were delivered today too, yay, now people can sleep on a bed when they come stay :)

The sun also arrived this afternoon, so Elizabeth, Lucy and I went out and soaked up some sunshine. It was very pleasant! They played, painting rocks, spy Elizabeth's slippers lol

and I wandered around with the camera. Loved seeing signs of seasons past and to come

Signs of summer past

Signs of spring to come

Signs of fresh, all year round love

Snapped some sunshine too ;)

And in amongst all of that I scrapped, yay and not yay lol Really feeling in a ditch with my scrapping right now. Glad to get the thoughts out of my head but feeling like it just isn't working for me, not even paint! So will keep working on through that ;)

Here is my One Little Word layout, the word for this challenge was 'if'

Journaling "If I hadn't watched you that day. If I hadn't prayed for you to have someone to talk to, do you think we would have become us? Just as well God doesn't do if"

It's the story of God moving and bringing Dave and I together. Motto is don't pray for something if your not ready to see it happen and if your not open to God moving in you. So I prayed that Dave would find someone and bang look who that someone was!! Some 12 years later and here we are, still talking ;)

Then I scrapped these 3, challenging myself to only use scraps, things I wanted to use up and cardstock that wasn't bazzill....
I did this one after reading Jill's post here, been waiting to snap a photo of Megan's soccer boots and then to scrap this. Also did this with the Aussie Dare's prompt, to use foil, and used the packaging from a packet of rice cakes :)

I used a texta lid to stamp the red circles, used both ends for the two different sizes.

This page I did after the week(s) I have just had and the much needed selfday on Sunday. I took the photo on Sunday and had to scrap what was in my head :)

And this page has also been thought of for sometime. Loved the way my Grandfather, on Mum's side, made porridge. He would soak it in the pot over night and it would be sitting there waiting when we got up the next morning. He wouldn't be there, as they lived on a farm and he would be out somewhere working, but there was always hot porridge waiting. I love it and when I have it I remember him. He would make it with just the right amount of salt and it was yum!! I remember putting lumps of butter in it, never having it with milk but my Grandmother making me have milk anyway and now I make it and have it with sugar on top and nothing else, sigh lol Just right for winter, well any time but winter is best lol

So there you go, thats me and my lot :) Tomorrow I will share my Project Scrap-Away page+ the other one I made but didn't use and will have news of if I got through to round 10 :)
