I Laid My Heart Out

Last year I went in and did some scrapping with Megan’s Grade 5/6 class
All the kids made a book to showcase work from the year
I only had the chance to go in once but the kids continued on their books
and they turned up fabulous
This year I am going back
to scrap with all the Grade 6’s
and I hope to do a little more with them this year than last.
This is my book from last year

IMG_3512

the one and only page I completed last year

and my new page, made today, eagerly ready for tomorrow

IMG_3510

and this year I hope to fill my book
the very cool steampunk figure is from Inka, at Altered Artifacts
Hoping to get more mixed media work down this year and I think this book will be a step in the right direction
Not to mention I just love watching the kids be inspired and the creative world it opens.

From Junk Yard To Masterpiece

you may remember that I shared some finds out our local recycle shop and said that I would show you have I use or alter them??
Well I used this very weathered clipbaord (the leather like folder is still waiting alterations lol)

100_1748

and made this

100_2131

I heard the quote, or maybe I saw it cos I think it might have been written, on a preview for Mao’s Last Dancer
Loved it
Had to use it :)
I started by covering the metal part with masking tape, to keep it safe from my paint
I then covered the clipboard with gesso and then some sewing pattern tissue paper, you can just see the lines through the paint. In real life you can see through it more.
I then painted over the top
When the paint was dry I used Hambly doily rubons, LOVE LOVE LOVE
I also inked the sides of the clipboard with black ink
I used some black paint to write the quote and then went over that with a white paint marker pen
A coat of mod podge to seal it all, removed the masking tape and voila :)

I Dream Of Sleepy Babys

As promised the third project I have been working on, using the Q Tea Roller Derby Doll kit
For this I used some scrap corrugated cardboard
I ripped up the VERY cute napkin and glued the blank parts onto the cardboard
I then painted these with the blue paint
I then glued on the picture part of the napkin
Cut off the 2 from the number sheet and used the sequin mesh as a mask and sprayed this with some Maya Road mist
I then added the lettering
Outlined the 2 and some of the chair with a white pen
Ran lace ribbon, from the kit, around the border, sticking it down with some Washi tape

I made it for my nieces, for when they move into their home

Yesterday it was hot and VERY humid
So the girls and I went outside to have some fun while I squirted them with the hose
and while their dresses got dry

100_0024com

we had some fun with the camera

100_0028com

and I have to say I really like my photos :)

I like them A LOT!

Yep I like them A LOT!!
Last night, while Dave was at soccer training, I scrapped this quick page

100_0070

In my recent Recycle shop purchases were a few lace doilies
I have been so inspired by the doilies Jodie makes and made my own
Cut up the doilies and placed some in some of the Maya Road mists, they have a more vibrant colour than the Glimmer Mist

100_0072

The flower middle is just some ripped tissue paper
The lettering is from Smiggle

Today we visited some friends before going to get the girls swine flu vaccines
The younger 3 have to go back for their second shot in 4 weeks and I’m hoping Lucy is umm quieter next time lol

In other, exciting, news the Such Sweet Tierney Design Team has been announced and London added me for a second term, YAY
I am grateful for the opportunity and am excited to be picked again
There is another Aussie in the mix this time so that’s exciting too :)

Karen asked me how I get my photos so big
Well I have been using Windows Live Writer for a while now, love how easy it is to write posts in, much easier than blogger
You can download it for free and it allows you to post to multiple blogs and keeps a history of your posts
I can alter the size of photos in that and I change them so that the width is 650 which is about the space left between my blog margins
That way, I think, it looks neat between the list on the right and the blank margin on the left.
Hope that helps Karen :) If anyone has any other questions, feel free to ask and I will try my best to answer them :)

Sometimes you need to…

100_5353

as this little piece of lego, on the floor near the kitchen, has reminded me
I know that life is so busy that we often don’t notice the little things or take time to fully appreciate the things that are around us
I know that when I do stop though I get sick and guess what lol
Had Elizabeth home today, she was in real need of a day to rest, and a Dr’s appointment showed she just has a cold so that was nice news because the sore throat I have really hurts so I don’t like to think what’s going on in her little body!
The last two days have started out frosty, with lots of ice on the roads and the garden looking like this

100_5348

Yesterday Lucy and I were at home for most of the day, her zooming around AGAIN looking snazzy :)

100_5351

Dad flew in last night so I picked him up from the airport while Dave and the girls did the Guide run
Was really good to have Dad home, was secretly hoping he’d bring Mum home with him but knew that wasn’t going to happen and it didn’t :(

Can now share the page I made for Such Sweet Tierney, love LOVE the buttons London sent me

100_5236

and her packaging is always inspiring!! Just had to use the wood grain contact that she had on the packets :)

100_5242

100_5239 100_5240100_5241

You can find all these buttons in via the Such Sweet Tierney blog.

Yesterday I finally got to play with this weeks collage challenge at Crowabout
Struggled to find a ‘saying’ but when I started cutting up the body it finally dawned on me what to do :)

100_5362 100_5360100_5359100_5361

100_5358

So now I enlist your help, what “unusual” sayings does your family use and what does the saying mean? Am making a list, as I go, and now hoping that the future collage challenges will correspond to them lol

Trying Something New

For a long time I have wanted to make this, since I first saw it in February. I even went to the tip shop and found the thickest book I could find so I could play.

100_5252

Looks boring doesn’t it!! But it’s red, it’s thick and it has some cool graphics inside, ideal! And then it sat under my scrap table not doing much at all…

For a long time too I have been wanting to ‘dabble’ in stamping, collage… more mixed media and then yesterday I read Pam’s blog and saw her creation for a group called CrowAbout. It looked like fun and it looked just like what I had been waiting for, so I asked to play along and got straight into the fun!!

100_5247

This saying was something we were talking over when Dave’s Mum was here. As soon as I saw the collage pictures I knew what I wanted to make, a dancing dressed up dog :)

100_5250

Love this fella :)

100_5251

Now the way Christina made her book was straight forward, front to back, prepare everything first… Well not me lol I just pulled out random pages and then started somewhere near the end of the book. My plan is to make it as I go and in absolutely no order at all! I will glue the pages as I go and quite possibly do the cover near the end, when the book is finished the very thought of which excites me :)

100_5246

So my ‘new project’ is going to be about quotes/sayings that are a little outside the norm but are everyday ‘lingo’ and I am going to have fun with it as I will the book with collage :) Looking forward to the next page :)
