Today I have another canvas to share with you.
A canvas created for X-Press It.

The new One Little Word is up.
This month the word is COLOUR
I created a simple canvas using a brown paper bag and some paints.
I recently purchased some new stencils (from Typo)
and when this girl holding balloons stencil I just knew I had to create a canvas.
I used water colours on a brown paper bag, to create the feel of mundane,
taken for granted everyday verses subtle colours of the everyday.
Sometimes we need a reminder to stop and look at what’s around us.
Jot Magazine’s Mood Board challenge number 10 is up and running
Did you notice who got to choose all the things for the mood board??
Yep!
ME!
I totally love the greens and blues in this board.
Throw in white space, dots of red and yellow and the graphics are just a bonus!!
I had a zillion ideas for this board but ended up making a canvas.
The silhouette is from a stencil pack I found in Typo.
I printed the text out with the help of the computer
Then traced the stencil and cut out the shape.
Love that the Mood Board challenge inspires in so many ways.
You can see what the other Jot Girls created HERE
And maybe play along too?!?!
Over the next few days I am going to share the things
I created for the Scrapbooking Memories Masters competition
I’m starting with the first thing I made
the 12x12 canvas.
I started with this one because I thought it would be the hardest and take the longest
When in fact it didn’t take too long to create at all.
I really wanted to make something that reflected me
and I think this does
I’ve created lots of layers and textures
and used lots of things that I love
or needed reminding of
and I was happy with how it turned out.
What I wrote with my entry:
About The Canvas:
Inspired by my love of hexagons
and two of my favourite products, stencils and texture paste,
I made this canvas to go on the wall of my scrap area.
I really wanted to highlight my style
as well as things I am loving right now
so I filled each hexagon with colour or something fun.
I used a camera brad to remind me to take more photos
and “Take Note” brad to remind me to write things down.
Today is the end of a long weekend here in Australia
The June long weekend is when the Scrapbooking and Papercraft Expo is on in Brisbane
This time last year I was up there, soaking it all up
This year I’ve been appreciating all the photos that have been filtering through Facebook of the expo
I wasn’t there but two pieces of my creative work were
The first was this canvas, made for Scrapmatts
Each member of the design team was sent a canvas
We were told we could create anything but it had to contain a portrait 4x6 photo of ourselves
and, of course, scrapmatts
I did struggle with the making of the canvas
I struggled for many reasons
but then this quote struck a chord with me and what I was (and am) trying to do
from there the rest just flowed
Each of the scrapmatts products then became an outpouring of my heart, my life and my creativity
So, like a where’s wally search,
you will see cogs inside a clock, showing how my day is run by many mechanisms (people)
you will see many symbols of growth
you will see a bird OUT of it’s cage, free
the bike on the clock, is how I am always driving from one place to another, running to time
the dress form flows into the photo, expressing my life as a Mum of girls
I’ve used several mediums
Different paints, inks and mists
I’ve even used a scrapmatts as a stamp
I hope you see what I saw, as I created it
It’s my heart
It’s my art
and it was in Brisbane
Exposed… for all to see
Which is how I feel, as I share it with you now.
Because…
Creativity takes courage!
Hope you are inspired to create, share and be courageous.
Inspired by Kim’s challenge I made a canvas instead of a layout
The white is just for the photo
I really wanted to make the “breathe” to stick out
So its bigger than the canvas base it is on
I used papers from the May kits and these clouds from April
cut some butterflies to add dimension, texture
and movement
I also used the Crafter’s Workshop Blazonry 6x6 Stencil (that comes with the May kit)
and a number stencil
and layered up my dymo tape
Played lots with the canvas
Adding layers and textures
Bliss!
Today we started with porridge
A holiday treat
Some had it with milk, honey and sultanas
I haven’t been creating anything scrappy since the school holidays started
But before the school holidays I had made a few ATCs (Artist Trading Cards)
This one features a Scrapmatts Butterfly
this one a Scrapmatts Heart Spray
and this one a Scrapmatts Twig
The ATCs are now on their way to Brisbane for the Scrapbook and Papercraft Expo
Something else I had been working on for a while is a canvas
Featuring the twig and leaves from the Twig 01 pack
I’m enjoying the school holidays
and I know the girls are too
because this week we had her visit twice, on the same day!
Yep we had some toothless twins happening here
They lost their teeth on the same day, and it was teeth that are next to each other
Elizabeth’s had been wobbly for sometime and Jessica’s not so much lol
And it wasn’t on account of this
We finally had time to go shop for our traditional ”Holiday Cereal”
And I have to say that although Grandma would be proud that they all choose chocolate I opted out of choosing a box and stuck to my plain old boring in comparison Special K!
Other things that have been happening since New Years Eve…
Dave packed up the inside Christmas lights, tree and decorations
Megan had a ‘holiday’ at Mum and Dad’s for 2 nights
But we got to catch up with them all on the 2nd night
We all went to the Taste of Tasmania
And taste we did!
we ended up down in the marquee where they had cooking demonstrations and a band
The girls went up to get some of the samples from the demonstrations but were at the back of the group that surrounded the cooking area so only got the last plate to share
They quickly learnt that you had to be first so this was what happened for the next lot of samples
Yep that is them right up at the front, ready to pounce on the food tray!!
We were sitting right up the back
Right near the stage for the band
Which wasn’t so good for the foodies
but was great for when the band started and the movers got moving
My sister brought Megan home, stayed a while with her girls and then took Jessica back for her 2 day stay at Mum and Dads
We spent our vouchers that Uncle Samuel gave us
The girls adding to their toy/book/cd piles
While Dave and I added to the Wii games with Mario Kart
Fun
The girls have enjoyed playing the Wii
Here was a little session I spied while I peeled potatoes last night
Dave is holding Elizabeth because she likes to creep forward when she plays 10 pin bowling and the tv isn’t safe when she moves forward lol
Today is the first time I have had time and motivation to be creative
I decided to use this canvas, that I had started before Christmas
It’s my word for 2010
I feel it’s a year for possibilities and I am looking forward to what will emerge in 2010 and how I will emerge from it
Tonight Megan has a friend staying over
They ‘allowed’ me to take their photo
and before bedtime they got to scrap a page each
Megan’s page
and her friends
I also scrapped this page this afternoon, while waiting for the kettle to boil so I could make Dave a coffee for when he got home
and some close ups :)
was hoping that this blue twirly bit would turn out differently but went with it and don’t mind how it turned out :)
Things haven’t really slowed down here, in fact the month is already filling up at a rapid rate
Have 2 social events and an appointment this week as well as picking up Jessica and going to Mum and Dad’s again
Seems life doesn’t have an off switch that I can reach so it’s just as well I can smile and know it’s all good :)
