Ah, Don't Go Acting The Fool, Curl

Today I went with Elizabeth’s class on an excursion
We went to Bonorong Wildlife Park
And someone was 1. in their element and 2. Loving it!!

It must be spring
because we saw baby kangaroos
baby Tasmanian Devils

baby wombats (which this one isn’t)

and baby koalas (again this one isn’t)

but we enjoyed everything we saw
and enjoyed the cold day out and about
with the animals

Will leave you with a conversation from our dining table:
Megan has been calling her teacher Mr S instead of his surname
So the conversation started with that in mind…
E: “Megan why do you call Mr S Mr S?”
Me: “Yeah M!?” (trying to make a point but it was soon to be lost!)
J: “Yeah thanks for dinner D&M… Oh no that should be D&S”
Me: “yeah we are a DS”
J: “Well, good things do go together”…..

Hopefully you get the gist of the conversation and it isn’t one of those “had to be there” conversations!
Just glad she thinks we are good things and do go together lol

Move ‘n’ Sit

Elizabeth’s physio had suggested we try out a Move ‘n’ sit cushion
So today we went and bought one

I think she likes it
just another thing in our quest to find things to help out this little chickadee :)

Lucy and I only had a short visit to my Great Aunt’s today
Her ducted heating still wasn’t on so she told us to go because it was too cold
So we did a few things around her house and came home, via McDonalds and a scrap shop because I need some cardstock :)
Tonight we took the girls out for pizza/pasta and then to the chocolate shop
Fun :)
Dave’s soccer game for tomorrow had a time change which meant he can’t play, because the girls have their games at that time, so we are down to 2 games tomorrow instead of 3. I’m not complaining ;)
Made a quick start on Day 4 of Vee’s Delight Workshop just about to print a photo and maybe do some more on that… we will see… I’m tired lol

A New Day and A New Plan of Attack

Thanks to everyone who left a comment or emailed me or txt’d thanks Allison :)
I knew, when I made the page and blogged, that I wasn’t alone in this journey
That there are others, many others, who have similar and more painful stories
I thank each of you that shared with me a little of your own stories and I feel supported by you all
I do encourage you to share your story, either with someone or by putting it down on paper, so that you find clarity in your own situation, clear your head of thoughts and also to find that you are not alone in the journey you are on
Sometimes that step is hard but once you open up you will find there is someone waiting with a hand out stretched, waiting to walk with you

One of the other things we have been going through, with Elizabeth, is separation anxiety
It’s something we have been dealing with for a long time now
It’s always when I leave, not anyone else, although you can see her thinking about it sometimes when it’s someone else
There have been times where it’s happened simply when I have left her at home with Dave, and the others, for a trip to the supermarket, just her knowing I was going somewhere was enough to make her get anxious and upset
That has got better but going to school in the morning has been an issue for a while
It got better and was ok but for the last few weeks it’s been back
So today I have tried something new for her

 100_5659

She now gets a gold star on the day when she doesn’t get upset when I leave her classroom and when she has a weeks worth of stars we do something together on the weekend
So this weekend we are going to do some baking together :)

100_5662

She got to draw a picture on the chart and she decided to draw a picture of her and I, saying goodbye :)
That’s her, the bigger one with curly hair
I’m guessing she drew herself being big and brave :)

Today I started on Vee’s Delight Workshop

Looking forward to the next few days and what else Vee has up her sleeve for the workshop :)

Feeling Fragile

Today has been a long, tiring, emotional type of day
One that has left me feeling a little on edge and fragile
Lots of reasons, the weather a factor, just to show that it’s not too heavy lol
But now I will ramble, get it out and put my thoughts here, cos that is what I do

This morning Elizabeth had her Occupational Therapy and Physio appointments
For whatever reason she gets really hyper in these sessions and just doesn’t sit or concentrate well
It’s makes the sessions hard and you know that she can do so much better but what can you do
Today her physio said that the next session would be Elizabeth’s last because she had got to the levels that we needed her to get to, which is wonderful, fantastic and I am so proud of her BUT…
It’s daunting, and scary, knowing that this is it
That we have reached a milestone
From here on in it is up to Elizabeth to do what she can to try
From here on in it is up to Elizabeth to develop skills that will help her face the future
From here on in it is up to Elizabeth to figure out how to do things the best way possible for herself
From here on it it is up to Elizabeth to maintain the level that she has reached and to aim for new goals

As a parent it’s hard to watch your child go through hard things
As a parent of a kid who has physical problems it’s hard to step out with the realisation there is nothing you can do to change the ‘problems’ all you can do is help them develop the tools to learn, grow and overcome hurdles that may come their way
As a parent you have people to help you to find the tools that will help your child and when the journey becomes just you again it is scary
This year has been, for me, a lot about having my support base removed
It’s been about learning that there will be times when I have to battle through knowing there isn’t anyone to help me, anyone who can take the load and that when things come tumbling down I HAVE to get right back up again because the structure known as family won’t stand well if I don’t have a firm footing
This year, so far, has been a tough one and there has been zip I could do to change that. All I could do was change my thinking, my self focus and realise that what I have right in front of me is what matters most, yup my family

So this afternoon my thoughts, of Elizabeth, were put onto paper and this page, using the One Little Word prompt “Why”

100_5638

I used scraps of pattern paper,

100_5639

grabbed some of the gorgeous Such Sweet Tierney and Jenni Bowlin chipboard buttons

100_5640

Some thickers, an Amy Butler butterfly

 100_5641

Some Pink Paislee chipboard shapes and a Library Card holder that Elizabeth gave me from school, it had a little note in it :) so that seemed an ideal addition to hold the journaling

 100_5642

Click on the journaling if it’s too small to read :)

100_5636

Seems like forever since I have scrapped and it felt soooo good to get this one out, especially today when it was raw. To put these thoughts into words, words just for her. Was a needed vent and one that I hope she ‘hears’ in the future and that is one of the reasons I scrapbook.

Frenzy of Friday

So today was alot like this...

wet! So the time we spent at home was inside.

This morning Elizabeth had her follow up doctor appointment, to check her ears to make sure that she doesn't have an internal problem after we had her hearing check a couple of weeks ago. Everything was found to be clear and back to normal so we are back to the 'delayed speech' theory rather than her having a hearing problem.

Before lunch Elizabeth and Lucy watched one of Lucy's favourite shows

which of course involves dancing

then my little helpers started to organise lunch

watching Elizabeth undo the cheese slices made me happy. It's a task that she normally struggles with, some of her motor skills are delayed so this is something that she has found hard to do.
then they both enjoyed lunch, Elizabeth with her ham and cheese sandwich

and Lucy with her always requested peanut butter and cheese sandwich

and me some toast cos I am usually over sandwiches by this time of the week

then in the afternoon they did lots of this

just mucking about!! I finally got things together for a post out I had to do

so before the school pick up we went to the post office. Dave was home not long after us and we had a coffee together, yay. He then made golden syrup dumplings for dessert

and just before dinner Megan found her way into the kitchen and up onto the kitchen bench, which is her favourite perch :)

So that was our day :)

Tomorrow is Megan's end of year soccer bbq, hoping the weather clears up!

Will leave you with a fact that I just read in an email...

83 days to Christmas!!!!!!!

A very random type of post...

Today was another day around home, well after a visit to the chemist to get some more antibiotics for Elizabeth and a trip to the supermarket to get some milk oh and a call in to get a coffee for me and a babycino for Lucy, so I made the most of the warmer/drier day and we got outside, between the spring showers, and I took some photos of the things we did today and of other ummm random stuff.

This is one of the bulbs Bron gave me, before she and Murray went to England. She gave me 2 packets of 3 each and so far the 3 red ones are out and the others are well on the way.

While we were outside I went through the garden shed and found some more old seed that the previous house owners had left behind. I know the seeds are old but I threw them about anyway as some will still germinate and grow. Planted corn, lettuce and tomato

Also thought I would update my blog photo so took some of me ;)

and have to share my shoe purchase, from our trip. These I went back to get as I just loved them! They have little apples on the sides, which you can't see in the photo, and are a dove and apple print, love them!!

Because it has been raining for the last 2 days, the washing has been inside, on the three airers. Today's went outside and was dry after lunch, so here is what 2+ days of washing looks like in our house.

Lucy and Elizabeth did some playing in the sunroom, because the clothes airer was taken away they had room again.

Elizabeth made a kite at kinder so she begged to fly in this afternoon... fly... well, it was off the ground for awhile lol

and she also brought home her very first home reader book. She read it with my twice and then read it to Dave about 3 times. Love that this stage is happening for her.

and finally I will leave you with a page I made today, using more bits from My Sweet Spuds kit

This made my heart smile...

There once was a girl.
This girl was a beautiful girl.
She was a clever girl.
This girl wasn't able to do everything that other kids her age could do.
YET.
She couldn't jump.
But then one day she jumped.
She couldn't hop.
And then the next day she hopped.
This was a big thing for this girl.
A big thing for her Mum.
It made her Mum smile.
It gave them both hope.
That's all.
The End :)

Sniffles

Lots :(

Dave was away Sat-Mon, work and a visit to see his Mum, so the weekend was a little hard on this ol' girl. But we are alive still, Dave is home and now I just need to get this cold knocked on the head and I might be back to 'me' again!

Was going to use the nights Dave was away to do some MEGA scrapping but it didn't happen. I don't know why but I found this time, while he was away, really hard. I should be used to him going away but this time I couldn't stop the tears...

Friday was Elizabeth's 5th birthday. We went to a park in the morning, to play with some of her kindergarten friends, home for fairy bread lunch and then her birthday dinner was the requested pizza and donuts.

Her donut cake

My Dad showing the world that Tasmanians do have 2 heads...

hehe

Dave took over some gifts for Grandma, will share what I made later, the girls made a sign for Grandma.

Scrapped these yesterday, trying to keep the day busy before Dave came home.

The rainbow stamp is from Lusi Austin's stamps

Leave you with this photo, taken this morning. Love that each day is new
