Scrapbooking Memories Masters Entry – A Double Page Journey

I was pretty chuffed to receive not one but two honourable mentions
In the Scrapbooking Memories Magazine Masters competition.
One of these was for my double page entry, to reflect on a journey.

I knew when I saw the Journey theme that I wanted to create a page to document this story.

Endometriosis is horrid and when I was 22 (or so) I was told that
I might not be able to have kids because I had this medical condition.

This was just the start of a journey, one that ended with four gorgeous girls.

The pattern paper I used is from Basic Grey and the print is… would you believe it… GIRLS NAMES!!

Bet they didn’t know it was going to be the perfect piece of paper for this page!!

As Seen In Scrapbook Creations Magazine Issue 97

A while back I was asked to take part in the Sketch Challenge for Scrapbook Creations Magazine 
Excited that I can now show you my double page layout.
Normally a 2 page sketch would scare the pants of me
But once I realised that I could still scrap “my way” and still stay true to the sketch I was right.
So I started with the background

Adding some texture paste and colour to my trusty black cardstock
Then I pulled out pattern paper and embellishments

Some were subtle and got lost a little in the magazine photo
Like the bird paper clip

And the “refashioned L”
Made out of a “T”
The wooden alphas were altered with ink
The wood veneer arrows were altered with the liquid pearls.

I had fun mixing the embellishments.
Some I had been hoarding
And some I just love!

I love how it all came together.
I love that I could write this story down.
It’s a day I know she will remember forever!

Did I mention I love how it all came together??
Because I do!

The Plastic Mountain At Your Feet

My double layout,
for the Scrapbooking Memories Magazine Masters competition,
was my last piece to be created.
I knew how I wanted it to look and it just wouldn’t come together
Which is weird because it wasn’t a difficult page
And it had everything on it that I wanted
Just didn’t look right, till I had finished it

I kept it all “true to myself”
Single photo
Paint
misting

and telling a story
With the help of a quote I found here

it said what I needed to say
And I just added the rest

as I added some colour and layers

And what I wrote about the layout

About The Page:

I don’t have many childhood photos
but I found and scanned this one,
of me at a school assembly on the school netball court.
I really wanted to use a quote, as my journaling.
So after searching around I found this one
and it fitted perfectly, once printed, on to my page,
so I knew it was the right one!
I used the layout to not only reflect my childhood
but also to talk about where I am now.

You Know You Twist So Fine

Busy day
Elizabeth had her “Ear Doctor'” appointment
Seems the 2nd grommet is out of the eardrum but both ears were looking good
As were her throat and nose
So we don’t go back for another 4 months, hallelujah :)
Lucy and I ran lots of errands but while we were home, which was in spits and spats,
I created this double 8.5x11 layout

based on this Pagemaps sketch, at Aussie Scrap Source,

I used some October Afternoon, Crate, The Girls Paperie and American Crafts products
The journaling, which is over 2 spots

Some machine stitching and ruffled sewing pattern paper

I used a Lindt chocolate wrapper to create the skirt on the dress form
Also a Heidi Swapp jewel and some doodling to make the necklace

and ohhhh how I love London’s chipboard buttons

This one is in the Christmas pack, love… LOVE LOTS

Let’s Play House Instead

Aussie Scrap Source are sharing some Page Map sketches over on their blog
I thought I would give some a go
I wanted to do week one but haven’t had time till now, week three
Here is my take for the double page sketch

I altered it a little
Making it 2 8.5x11 instead of 12x12
I squished it a little too
Loved that the sketch made doing a double page layout a breeze!

I used Cosmo Cricket products for the page

and a little other stuff
Like some Jenni Bowlin

and some Making Memories packaging

love me some bakers twine

Oh and I like me some typewritten (huh?!) journaling on a tag   

The day has been a sunny one
We took the girls for a walk after dinner
Around the block
The BIG block
Looking forward to long summer days
Long summer HOLIDAY days
